You know, this is starting to sound like an argument for outsourcing.
Not necessarily outsourcing overseas, mind you, but outsourcing
development to an external organization. In that situation, performance
measurements, compensation, accountability etc all apply to the team as
a whole - the consulting company or whatever - rather than the
individuals.
There must be people on this list who work under that sort of
arrangement, so I put the question to them. Do you find that working
this way improves your relations with management? What are the
downsides of having the Customer be a customer as well?
