Last nights moorings were very quiet and we went to eat in The Boathouse
(last night I listed this as The Boat) We left this morning at 9-20 am
just as it started raining and as we entered the river the flow was
obvious, until yesterday it had appeared still water, but today it was a
flowing river. We stopped for water in the Town and the water was about
an inch and a half up on yesterday. We were booked to go through
Stanground Lock at midday but we arrived at 11-30 and Tina locked us
down. She is now the official lock keeper as her father has retired.
With the bottom gates open we were on the bottom as the water levels had
been reduced ready for the expected rain and the lock has a concave
brick bottom, a gentle push towards the centre and we were away. At
Ashline lock we found the lock full, we also discovered the last boat
up had left the top paddle up, there doesn't appear to be any indicators
on them. At Whittlesey we managed the right angle bend without to much
bother and then down to Floods Ferry where we turned right to moor for
the night, still in the rain at Benwick at 4pm, The stern is within
jumping distance just by the churchyard and the bows are somewhere else
around mid stream.
