Last night a hire boat came up the flight after we had moored up and moored just ahead of us, they were the only people about when we set off this morning. At the staircase we had to empty the middle and bottom chamber before we could make our way down, but after that it was plain sailing as the boat that came home last night had left the top gates open and the paddles up on the next 3 locks. We were clear of the flight by quarter to eight and stopped for breakfast and walked back up the flight to post a letter.
