Last night we ate in the Swan about 10 minutes walk from the lock. This
is much more restaurant than pub eating but the do welcome dogs in the
bar and as we had a drink there lunchtime Magic can confirm that the
carpets are ideal for sleeping on. As we walked back to the boat last
night it was a clear, star light night and today started well. We set
off at 9 am, we were the first boat to be going down and had the locks
with us most of the way. We had one turned in our face and that was by a
couple of BW chaps with a BW work boat doing lock bollard duties. We
stopped for water at the top of the Hurleston flight. At this point it
started to rain hard, also there was a boat ahead of us and while we
filled the tank another came passed so the 4 locks down to the junction
were against us. At the junction we turned left on The Shropshire Union
Canal towards Chester, the weather changed form sun to heavy rain and
strong wind. We carried on towards Chester passing Beeston Castle on our
left. We moored for the night just below Wharton Lock at 1700 hrs. in
the rain.
