I was thinking the same thing as Ayende; I find mailing lists very convenient.
I am still not sure exactly how it would help us. You mentioned it works better than a mailing list for QA topics, however it does seem to overlap with the job of an issue tracker while being unstructured (and without issue numbers) which would seem to make things worse for us to track defects. I am not sure that having UV, the mailing lists and our issue tracker separate makes things harder than they should be. One obvious bug that was annoying, is that heaps of the topics I clicked on tells me "This topic is awaiting moderation" rather than not showing the topic at all.
