^^^^^^^^^^^ It means every word of it. The catch with
DVD-RW is that it has to be fully blanked before it can be re-user to
Incremental Sequential recording. It's the way DVD-RW is. But of course
full blanking is just dead boring and you don't actually want to seat
and wait in vain. Good news are that there're couple of alternative
ways:
1. Try to reload media, growisofs should engage DAO mode instead (reload
shouldn't be necessary, it must be a firmware bug). Keep in might that
DAO recordings come out none appendable.
2. Format your media for Restricted Overwrite with 'dvd+rw-format -force
/dev/dvdrw'. It should take less than a minute and has to be perfomed
only one time (I mean there is no need for re-format, if you want to
re-use that disc for another recording). One can argue that media
recorded in Restricted Overwrite is less compatible that one recorded in
DAO. From feedback I get it doesn't seem to be a problem in practice.
Reportedly all legacy units that could play DVD-RW media at all, could
play one recorded in Restricted Overwrite *as well.*
