Lee,

As for evidence, how about the congressional budget office, or the US
Census? According to the stats, Ronnie Raygun's ran the budget up 3 or 4
times from the level it had with Jimmy Carter. The record is quite plain
when it comes to Clinton, the federal deficit was significantly reduced
throughout his term in office. Look at the heritage foundation's notes on
the deficit - that place is packed with Clinton haters, yet even they admit
that the deficit mushroomed under Ronnie Raygun and G Bush Sr., and dropped
under Clinton. Check out http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/stecgovt.html or
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/. Here's another good source:

Having looked at the Heritage foundation's tax calculator, it really is
rather biased. It makes a series of economic assumptions that just do not
hold water. Laughable really.

My own take on taxes is that they are a bill from the federal government to
the citizens for services rendered, like the VA, national defense,
scientific research etc. Stuff I have no problem paying. One thing most
Americans forget is that they have among the lowest taxes in the developed
world, definitely the lowest among the group of 8 countries. Yet what they
get for it is way out of proportion for what they pay for. Its an amazing
deal.

regards,

larry
