Hamas has two heads so to speak. On one hand they are a terrorist
organization. On the other they provide schools, hospitals and quite a
lot of welfare services for the Palestinian refugee camps.

Please note I am not condoning what Hamas is or does - I'm just
pointing out the other aspects of them.

Many Muslims support Hamas because of their welfare work in the camps.
And contribute to it in accordance with their religious laws that
require the devout to contribute 10% of their income to charity.

There was even some linkage between the money he donated to one of the charities he supports and the 3 million dollar bounty by Iran, IIRC. He has openly supported Hamas for years (claming they are just a political and aid org). He spoke out in support of Saddam (and against the West) during the first Gulf War.
