The reason why Franklin fought for those rights was because they
didn't have them. Under British rule the people of the colonies were
subject to having British troops break into their homes searching for
revolutionaries, guns, etc. The colonists were required to even house
the British troops and could be carted off and killed for refusing.

Yes, the interpretation and application of what the Constitutionally
granted rights cover has evolved, but their existence is fundamentally
because of the lack of those rights the people suffered.
