"Here's an eye-opener for you: my parents didn't send me to a god damn thing, *I* sent my self"
Here's an eye opener for you. My family was dirt poor. I was able to go to college because of academic scholarships, work study, and loans. I received a fellowship to go to grad school. However, there are some people out there who do pay for their children's college education, as hard as that is to believe. Since they pay, they feel like they have a little bit to say about the college. " Point being, just because you lacked the maturity as a young adult to make your own decisions, don't force that on the rest of us." It has nothing to do with maturity or forcing anything on anyone. A kid may say "I want to go to Duke." The parent may say, "I am not going to pay $50K a year for college. Tough luck. You can go to the local state supported school." The said kid can then decide to boycott college because he isn't getting his or her way. The freedom of decision is there. Likewise, a parent may say, "The only school I will pay for is Bob Jones." Again, the kid can say "That's it. I am out of here. I'll pay my own way." or they can take the money and get an education (which will be slanted to a certain opinion). "If you want kids to be immune from "indoctrination", why don't you start by giving them the tools they need to make good decisions and then letting them make them? Because that the ONLY way dude. High school is where you get the tools, 18 years old is when you begin to use them." Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, I think most public schools are failing miserably. There are a few good ones, but a lot of bad ones. That opens up another can of worms. I am pro-voucher all the way. I don't think it will ever happen though. "What's happened to people in this country?" The American people have gone to sleep at the wheel. The keep electing self serving nimrods who don't give a rat's ass about our country or their constituents. They only care about maintaining their office and making elicit money.
