I guess my feelings are that he never "manned up" to Chappaquiddick, so never, regardless of his other good works, climbed out of that dark and cowardly hole he made for himself. Harsh, but that's my feeling. Add to that the Smith rape and his participation (as wingman, host, witness and character witness), which makes me wonder how much he had actually changed in 20 years.
