I called him a punk because he tortured animals in a wanton and cruel and repetitive fashion for amusement and "sport". I'll stand by that statement. Hopefully he can progress beyond that. That would be awesome. > I hope I am right about Vick, too. He has been given a second chance, > to not only play football, but to make a difference in other people's > lives. You set up a straw man and begged someone to go in swinging, so I did. You want to make the point that Kennedy was a deeply flawed man who probably contributed to someones death? I said that on here before you posted anything. You want to say that Vick is being tried in the public court and being held to a standard that others might not be because he is young, black and a professional athlete? Sure thing. I can get behind that. You want to compare the two? Not so much. Kennedy fucked up by all accounts, his included. You may not like his "admissions" regarding the incident but I've felt it there in the background for the entire time I've known of him and I think his words and actions show remorse even if they aren't up to your standards. And I do understand the standards, btw. To me, the big difference is that Kennedy fucked up in an accident, a stupid one that I could see myself involved in when I was younger. I like to think that I would have had more courage and done things differently (though there is no absolute account of the night anyway). But I haven't been in that situation and can't say for certain what I would do. Vick, on the other hand, was engaged in something that was ongoing, that was cruel, that existed over a period of time for him to think about the matter, to afford him ample opportunity to change his mind, to change his ways. It wasn't a sudden accident and freak out in the matter of minutes and hours. It was days, weeks, months, years. That is a big big difference. But I still don't have any problem with him getting a job in the NFL. He did his time and I want to see rehabilitation of people who have gone to prison. But you were trolling and trying to compare someone who fucked up in an accident in his youth and then devoted the rest of his life to public service to someone that committed cruel acts over a long period of time and has thus far shown no great understanding of the depravity of his acts let alone a distinguished service to humanity in any way shape or form. I hope Michael Vick becomes a paragon of humanity, uses his money, power and fame to advance a plethora of worthwhile causes and leads an exemplary life. I'm happy to give him that second chance. But to use him as a foil for someone who actually *did* those positive things while dragging the chains of a long ago accident? That belittles the life of Ted Kennedy and cheapens your point immensely.
