too much protein will hurt your kidneys - coupled with low or no carb
in-take it's worse.  My father's a physician and has shown me what happens
when you do these things to your body long-term.

I think too much protein hurting your kidneys is a bit of a myth. I take
in LOTS of protein, mostly from meal replacements and protein shakes and
it doesn't bother me. It could be because I work out a lot and maybe it
helps break it down better, but I have asked on a few bodybuilding
forums I go on about protein damaging kidneys and most people say it's
not true. I'm no doctor so I don't have substantial evidence on this,
  just my findings.

Careful. My mom had a "cardiac event" which we think was due to her
  starting
an Atkin's like diet. It's also very hard on your kidneys (too much
protein). Best to do some research to see how it might affect you.
