I don't think it's the protein alone. I think it has to do with the elevated
ketone levels that occur when you consume large quantities of protein and
deprive your body of carbs. The kidneys have to work a lot harder to get rid
of the ketones.

But, I'm pontificating from memory, so I could be wrong.
