True, true... but mostly I develop for unsophisticated users
who demand very little in terms of how a particular feature
functions.

I know I need to update soon, and would have already if
Adobe had not made the upgrade unavailable to those with 4.5.

But I know the world is changing and sooner or later I have
to bring myself up to date...

What would an example of one of those be that I couldn't
do with 4.5?

Ultimately though, the "presentation" is just, in most cases going to be
HTML/JS so ColdFusion shouldn't really be expected to provide this per se. 

The step up from non-Java ColdFusion is massive in terms of how it works
under the hood and in terms of features and capabilities.

CF7 just does things way, way better than 4.x/5. 

I can see your point in that at this stage your requirements are limited and
CF4 etc meets them but that server is way outdated (even archaic) and that
when a more advanced feature request comes about you could be without a
paddle.
