I thought I would straighten this out. Although I was really just sort of
kidding (which probably most of you already understand), what I was really
imagining is that since the puppy millers have started their own registry,
the show breeders of all breeds could start their own special registry for
puppies bred only by show breeders, the AKC could be for backyard
breeders--which comprise the lion's share of AKC's registry anyway! Then
everyone would understand where their particular puppy came from. A
neighbor could say *here is the registration of my dog with -- registry* and
another would understand where they purchased their puppy. This is where
the peer pressure would come in. There not only could be a sort of *keeping
up with the Jones' thing*, but also the fact that backyard breeder and puppy
mill bred pups are generally more unhealthy would quickly come out for those
that pay attention.
Of course, we all know how different people are. Many would forget or not
care which registry their dog came from, some would actually attempt to buy
from the worst just because they want to be different, and any other
scenario you could come up with.
But still, it would be a nice thought that might work for certain
subsections of the human population.
