Hi Donna -

This idea was recently suggested by a local member (also a judge) of both
of the all breed kennel clubs that we belong to. Members seem to feel that
being listed on teh AKC site with contact information for breeder referral
(both clubs are) was adequate...
The clubs are in separate counties, and the area is served by several food
sized newpapers, so where to advertise was also an issue...neatly resolved
by going with the web site...

Years ago one of the major dog magazines available on newstands ran a
number of articles over a period of time that were aimed at helping pet
buyers find reputable breeders. One of the key warnings (after the obvious
stay away form pet sotres and fle market puppies) was that only back yard
breeders advertise in the newpaper. However the back of this magazine was
filled with ads by breeders for puppies of probably every AKC breed and
many "rare" breeds. At the very beginning of the ads was a disclaimer to
the effect that the magazine had no liability for anything that the
adertisers sold....

A Cavalier breeder that advertises in the newpaper can pretty much count on
destroying their reputation on a national, if not international, basis in
about 24 to 48 hours....
I guess the magazine's articles were successful...
