I agree with your reasoning. Even those that know what a good breeder is think that ALL breeders advertise in the paper. Nearly everyone I know looks to the newspaper and/or pet shop for their next puppy. I have thought for years about putting an ad in the paper. It would be nice if the AKC or someone else would set up both a very informative, but SIMPLE, website telling how to go about finding a puppy and a staff of friendly, knowledgeable people to man phones--one that would be completely separate from the regular AKC site and phone number--which is overwhelming to most pet people! If this was done, then they could get *sponsors* who would pay for ads in the area newspapers (such as I would be willing to pay for the ads in my area Plain Dealer under Cavaliers) to advertise both this website and the phone number regularly throughout the year--especially as the holidays are approaching! The Your Purebred Puppy site is close to what I would like to see--but there is no phone number for people who do not have computer access to call. And believe it or not, there are MANY prospective pet homes that do not have a computer! :-) How could as many people ignore that ad if it appears under most breeds on a monthly basis? I think eventually many, if not most, would take notice.
