<Their dogs were too fat. not too heavy, TOO FAT,
but they refused to understand that they were really stressing the entire
system of their dogs by over-feeding them in the name of "pampering". each
person blamed the other for the overweight problem.

I keep Cavaliers occasionally for people when they go out of town. I keep
an especially sweet girl, but she is fat! She waddles. I tried to tell
them the first time they left her that it was very hard on her heart to be
overweight.

When they picked her up the last time, the young daughter was looking at
them sitting on my couch together. She said, "Mom, our Cavalier must weigh
about twice what Madeleine weighs!" I *think* that woke the mother up. I
then told her that I just couldn't feed their girl as much as she'd told me
to while they were gone. I told her that Madeleine and Dinah ate about 1/4
that much. I also told her that Callie seemed satisfied with the amount
that I'd fed her.

She then said that she would put Callie on a diet and continue the routine
I'd started. She asked what kind of treats I used, etc. (They were
feeding a high calorie large treat several times a day.) That was this
summer. I'll be interested to see if she's lost weight the next time I see
her.

That is something that is so easily controlled. I just don't understand
why people let their dogs get fat.
