> I love that you openly discuss these things Laura. Good for you.

Why not? I've done the best I could. I fully test every single dog I breed
and only use phenotypically clear dogs, in 26 years every dog I bred to was
also fully tested and phenotypically clear except one. The one dog was an
exceptional case--I agonized for 2 years and decided to take a chance
because of the MVD status in this breed and his exceptional status.

The owners got a break on my regular price because of this and they are well
aware of the fact that his hips weren't OFAd.

And no way on earth would I blame that dog for hip dysplasia if his
grandchildren developed it. It is a polygenic trait and both parents would
have to contribute. I would blame myself for not paying enough attention to
all the information available and making a breeding mistake.

There were 4 resulting puppies and 3 were checked, although one was not sent
in--the owner and vet didn't think to do so. The vet said he was fine. He
has been neutered for years. The other girl--she lives nearby. She has
been spayed for years, but I will try to get the owner to check her. It
would be nice to know if the whole litter was free of hip dysplasia.
