Even though some poodles live to 19 (there are Cavaliers that lived to 18), that is not the average. I think most of them die by age 15 or so. So far every Cavalier I've kept has lived close to 15 years as well. My Prudence will be 14 next month and only has a grade 1 murmur--as diagnosed by Dr. Riepe in September. I think a goal of having most Cavaliers live 13-15 years is acceptable and VERY attainable, since the majority of mine do. Sure I have produced an occasional dog that developed MVD before age 5 and died before age 10, but it is very rare (I only know of two). The vast majority die at 12-14 years--more than half from cancer.
