Basically, if the puppy gets too fat and too inactive, it's little chest sort of flattens out, and they don't move around much in the whelping box. Fairly common with litters of one or two pups. They don't have to crawl under and over the litter mates, but can just lay there hooked up the whole day. So they look sort of like little flat, fat turtles. The legs get flaccid and usually stick out from the body. The fix is sort of a two-parter. You need to get them off their chest. And you need to get their legs up underneath them. So, if you hobble the feet, by taping them together, the puppy will try to get away from the hobble, and that is the exercise it needs. It will kick it's little flacid legs. Meanwhile, you turn the puppy on to it's side when it is sleeping. Usually a couple or three days will make a big difference and within a week, the puppy is completely normal. They look awful, but the fix is an easy one. Myra
