Well, I'm coming late to this party and may be answering a question that has
already been answered, but Susan, you can't seriously expect someone to just
tell ANY caller who wants to use a stud dog "OK, send her."
I certainly wouldn't...nor would I expect any stud dog owner to not ask me
questions.
Not all dogs are at public stud, anyway. My dogs are here for me, for
example, and while I do let some people use them, for the most part I do not. I
certainly don't allow bitches to come here when I don't know the owners at all
and have no idea of the condition of the rest of their dogs, or of their selling
practices. It doesn't matter if the person is someone I like or not, but when I
advertise my dogs it is because I'm proud of them, not because I want the world
beating my door down to use them.
Yes, the stud fee money is lovely--but sometimes the effort expended is not
worth it. Certainly not for an owner that I can't trust to protect the
reputation of my dogs.
So, to answer the question, if someone I never heard of called me and said
they wanted to breed a bitch to one of my dogs, and if that person was
completely unknown to me and still didn't want to have a discussion about the
matter, the answer would be No. In fact, the answer is often No even to
people I know and like.
