Dear Anne, As I stated when I asked the question in my earlier post, I was not giving my opinion on the desirability of the way things are done in the Cavalier world. I was pointing out the restriction to the gene pool.
In further answer to your question, I have only had one ad in Royal Spaniels. I can't remember exactly when this was, but I think that it was in the first year of the magazine's publication. At the time that I placed that ad, I would have sold unrestricted to a buyer who had called me from that ad if I had a good impression of them from our conversation. I've never interrogated a buyer. I feel that if you talk to a person long enough they'll tell you all you want to know about them. I would have used the same criteria on deciding whether to sell a pet puppy to the person. And, yes, I have turned down pet sales to homes that I didn't think were suitable. I turned one lady down today. She sounded very nice, but has a 4 month old baby. I don't sell puppies into homes with children under two years old as I feel that the mother's time and priorities are already pretty full with a small child. The last thing she needed was to be housetraining a puppy in the winter while she has an infant in the house. Again, I was not giving my opinion of whether or not to sell unrestricted. I was pointing out the effect on the gene pool.
