A small comment from a different perspective...most of the Cocker breeders were quite well known to each other either personally, or through mutual friends. We worked together which I feel is the reason the gene pool was so good during that period, before the commercial breeders (thinly disguised as 'show' breeders) dove in to breed for profit (look out, Cavalier fanciers, they are HERE already, no more $$ to be made in Cockers!) and additionally, most did belong to the parent club otherwise we could not nominate bitches for the National Futurity. Only puppies out of nominated dams can be shown in the Futurities and only members can nominate. Now I shall crawl back under my rock VBG.
