Winnie... I have to jump in here...Ego and Greed??? Who have you been dealing with??? I can tell you I only breed a litter to try to gain that unreachable goal of the "perfect" CKCS with great expense and investment of time and energies. The thousand of hours I have spend on pedigree research, attending breed training, being mentored... and the numerous dollars I have spend on testing (not for marketing but again to improve on this breed). You want to know one club that has testing in its ethical standard??? Go to the Atlanta AKC Regional Club site...it is very well thought out statements!!! I was very impressed when I read this.
As far as the protocol...first place do not use that word which implies a scientific investigation...it does not. That makes my eye switch as a educator of research design and outcomes. The Sweden have their breeding requirements...have you reviewed them??? Tell me why this is different than that the "protocol".??? How much time have you spend on genetic investigation of canine disease???.Do you know the specificity and sensitivity of different measures for canine disease??? Would you after a major car accident drive 3 hours round trip while in great pain because you have waited a month to get that important opthamalogist examination of a litter??? And guess what they were going to pet homes...Why did I invest my time and money into this...when an adult eye examination is fine by most??? Because I want to know my genetic profile of the program that I am building!!! And as far as ego...breeding CKCSs can be a very humbling experience...I often laugh that God has a sense of humor. In regards to the ACKCSC direction...they have goals and objectives directed to the sport of dogs...you cannot have cross purposes... If they wanted to form an auxiliary organization that direct the interest and desires of the pet buying public...than form that organization. This is needed but has different purpose than the sport of dogs. The two cannot work together on complex issues that surround this...it is a basic priniciple of orgranizational dynamics. But I must "muse" that breeders that produce 100 puppies per year do not see cross purposes due to the fact they are laughing all the way to the bank...Ask yourself...how much works has gone into detail pedigree study along with health guided breeding with these numbers??? How many champions do they have in ratio to their number of litters per year??? What do you feel their goals are??? Their outcomes??? So as my plastic cards become more loaded with the cost of my hobby of producing to well thought out litters per year...I had a good laugh at the statement of ego and greed...it is more like heartbreak at times!!! I am usually very soft spoken person that tries to measure all sides...but frankly that statement made me a little angry!!! I am not flaming...I am smoking!!!
