Of course, you are right Dave. I will never be breeding as much as some. <G>
As to my experience, you really have no idea. However, I'll concede happily that there are many on this list with far more experience than have I, and I continue to learn from them equally happily. Please read my post replying to Winnie about my real life situation in which I wasn't spouting words, but trying to solve problems......breeder's problems.....both for an individual dog and my own breeding program. We all have to make choices. The SIMPLE answer is go for "health" and "protocols". Well, I can ASSURE you that I know enough that if we take a straight and narrow approach then we may delay onset of MVD (MAY) but without study and thought in each instance we will instead have epilepsy, cancer, deafness.......whatever with which to contend. There are NO simple answers in breeding or genetics. Suze I do follow the protocol and one of the reasons I didn't breed for so long IS because I wanted to ascertain the health of my dog before breeding. I have not bred a dog under 2.5 years old, heart with parents who were heart clear at five. However, this was a personal decision and I wouldn't hold any breeder to this particular protocol because it assumes health in all other areas of their breeding program.
