Myra, I must admit I am extremely surprised and disturbed by the tone of your response. I have respect for many of the opinions you have expressed in the past and for your stated goal and aspirations for the breed. I will assume you have not thought out what you have said here, especially the issues in which you compare the two clubs. I know you are aware of the fact that the AKC is not a club. You have been using the AKC and the ACKSC interchangeably which they certainly are not. The AKC is a registering body...the ACKSC is a club. The AKC is a registering body that registers over 150 breeds of dogs. The ACKSC and the CKCSC work just with Cavaliers. Why should the CKCSC educate judges that Cavaliers should be presented free baited when that is the norm? It is in the AKC that there is a problem, perpetrated mainly by professional handlers which as you know, are not allowed to show dogs in the CKCSC. It is the CKCSC that says that you must not breed a bitch before one year of age and she cannot have more than 6 litters and can have one back to back breeding and then must skip a year and must not bear a litter after the age of 8. The AKC can not stop a 6 month old bitch from having 20 consecutive litters. Not being a member of the ACKSC I have not read their rules but I assume they can not over-ride the AKC and therefore may have suggestions but certainly can not make rules contrary to the registering body they represent. Why does the AKC make visits to breeders.....because of the pressure put upon them by breed clubs such as the ACKSC and the CKCSC to do something about the puppy mill puppies they put their stamp of approval on. I assume you are aware of the fact that the CKCSC has ethic hearing to deal with unethical breeders and publishes the names of undesirables on their website and in their literature. Numbers of dogs or numbers of litters do not make a puppy mill. It is the quality of the care and the conditions in which the dogs live that determine that. Some of our members with large numbers of dogs are breeders who devote their lives to their dogs and provide them with exceptionally good lives. Sorry Myra, this is one issue you obviously have not thought through thoroughly. Phyllis
> . Where did I hear health testing discussed the most? > ACKCSC. Who has recently taken steps to educate judges as to how a dog > should be presented in the ring? ACKCSC. Which club has a limit on how old > a boy must be before he is bred? AKC Which code of ethics has the most > strongly worded encouragement to health test your breeding animals? ACKCSC > in my opinion, although it is is certainly just a matter of opinion. Which > club makes visits to breeders premises? AKC Which club requires DNA > testing on frequently used stud dogs? AKC Which club requires a permanent > form of identifying imports? AKC Which membership application quizzes the > applicant about what breeds of dogs they are breeding and have bred in the > past? ACKCSC Which membership application inquires about how many litters > you have produced in the past? ACKCSC And last but certainly not > least.......which club is it that is inspecting puppy mills and fining puppy > millers? Certainly not the CKCSC.
