Kathy -

I am by no means an expert, but I wouldn't do OFA's on dogs that young
and expect a high percentage of validity. I think the percentages have
been posted on this list before. I do Prelims any time over one year
old and the finals just after two. The Ruby boy was almost 16 mos old
when I bought him. His littermates were all placed by that time and
they were running him on. All the other girls in the household (all
related to him) were coming into season and they were worried about an
accident, so he became available. Anyway, I have this "hip thing", so
the breeder agreed to let me take him home to my Vet, have him X-rayed
(which I did the day after we got home) and if the rating wasn't Good or
better, they would split the cost of his return trip and return my
money. Fortunately that was never necessary as he did score Good and
his patellas (which were not part of the deal) were evaluated by OFA as
well, and were "normal". Hope this helps.
