If we could each find our "comfort" zone, and then learn to be more open and sharing with each other, we could really progress. I know that I wouldn't hesitate buying a puppy from Pam, who has seen the xrays, made informed decisions and is completely up front with me about why she did the breeding, what were the values of each dog involved, etc. I would buy the puppy and continue to share information with Pam as we xrayed it and bred it in the future. We would work as a team in breeding away from that one bad hip. The ones that drive me nuts are the ones who say they don't xray because they've never had problems in their lines. If you don't xray, you don't know what you are looking at. I have to be completely honest here. If I had a girl who was mildly dysplastic, I would breed her to the boy I have with the best hips, and keep 2-3 pups from that litter, sell off the remainder on restricted ped. with full disclosure and our usual guarantee. We would watch those hips carefully, and always consider their "carrier" status in future breedings. I would feel that I needed the information about my boy that the breeding would give me. We recently let someone else use him on a girl who was known to be a carrier for geographic dysplasia. We discussed it at great length prior to the breeding and both decided that it would be beneficial for both of us to do the breeding. The bitch's owner consulted with a canine eye specialist who agreed with the concept of the breeding. All five puppies were clear as can be, and we learned an important factor in that our boy is very most likely NOT a carrier for geographic retinal dysplasia. While some of you may disagree with having done this, we feel it worked out fine. We are considering repeating the breeding to see if we get the same results. It would certainly clarify even further Robbie's carrier status on eyes. Myra
