<<<<<<<< The vast majority of Cavaliers have some type of immune disorder--allergies of any type, recurring yeasty ears, thrombocytopenia (30%!), dry eye, IBD, sudden death due to overwhelming infection, demodectic mange and a multitude of other things such as lupus, myasenthia gravis, myositis or any kind of weird stuff. It is everywhere!
Laura Lang>>>>>>>>> Well!!!! after having had Cavalier for 30 years and seeing them on a regular basis in UK, NZ and USA during that time, having met and visited probably hundreds of people and seen thousands of dogs and having bred more than a few Cavaliers over this time - this is all news to me!!!!!! If this has been your personal experience or your experience of Cavaliers in America, what are you doing to the breed????? Of all the things listed above I have had one case of dry eye and none of the other things - I don't even know what "IBD" is????? It is sweeping generalizations like the above that unnecessarily alarm people new to the breed or looking to get a Cavalier as a pet - it is simply NOT true I am afraid Laura and I really get upset when Cavaliers are presented in this light. If you are going to make such claims then you need to present the clinical studies that prove your case. In my exprience - which is of long standing and widespread, Cavaliers are a healthy robust breed whose main health problems appears to be mitral valve disease and a percentage of slipping patellas. Both these problems are being addressed by serious breeders in most parts of the world.
