I don't think our software would even let me close
an assessment if the R2b date was more than 14 days after the ARD. It
would give me an error message. So if what you saying is correct how would
you close the assessment so you could resubmit it?
I hope this never happens to me!!!
Also, is what you are saying about the inactivation
also true when it comes to modification?
If you modify an assessment do you then have to
change the R2b date to the date you are modifing the assessment?

There are two issues here.
One, don't confuse the assessment of the
resident with the completion of the assessment form. They are two different
events marked by two different dates. The
assessment of the resident stops as of the ARD. The completion of the
assessment form occurs as of R2b. Yes, the ARD of the new assessment should be
the same as the first one because the assessment of the resident stopped on
that day. You are in effect using the same assessment to fill out the new
form. But you did not finish filling out the 30 day form on the day you
finished filling out the incorrect 60 day form. Therefore, you have a new
R2b.
Second, once you inactivate the 60 day, it no
longer exists as far as CMS is concerned. I understand that within the
software you are simply changing AA8b on the original assessment, but that is
for your convenience only. It is a brand new assessment that has no true
association with any other assessment that may have existed before.

Even if all the information in the assessment
was the same and the only thing that would be different is the type of
assessment? I guess this confuses me because to me the assessment was
completed on the original R2b and to me the assessment is the same.
Why couldn't you date on the attestation form the date you inactivated the
assessment? To me the assessment of the Resident did not change and
they completed the assessment by the original R2b date. Fortunately I
have not had to do this and hope I don't have to but if I ever do I just
want to understand it.

After inactivating the record, the next
step is to create and submit a new, original MDS record. Since this
is a new, original record, the R2b date would be the date the new
assessment was completed - not the date the inactivated assessment was
completed. See the MDS correction policy at http://www.qtso.com/mdsdownload.html
