Hi Dave,

My husband was DX in August of this year. The first Dr. put him on Gleevec to see if would help. When we went to CTH his new Dr. did blood test and stated that his BCR was almost back to normal, and thought that it would be okay if he stayed since his body accepted it so well and not worrie about having to do a bone marrow. One month later, during his rutine visit, the Dr. let us know that my husband has some chromozone 9 and that the Gleevece would not work to well within time his body would start to dislike it. Dr. thought that it is time to start looking for a doner before he that starts to happen. Did your Dr. say anything about your chomozones at all? If not ask your Dr. if that has anything to say. My husband and i have three very young children,so wee decided that with how far they have come with technology, medicine and everything in between it is very well worth trying the bone marrow transplant. His only brother has been tested and we now know that he is not a match. His Dr. is checking the data base for a doner next week. Initally my husband wanted to stay on the Gleevec and that he would not ever consider a Transplant. I told him that we may want and plan on thing, but God is the olny on that know what is in store for him and he willm make that disision,

Subject: Re: [CML] Gleevec

Hello Dave
Just wanted to see how you were doing after 5 years
of Gleevec.  I am 24 years old and DX 2 years ago.  I
am not in remission, my BCR is still high, but
lowering every three months.  I have gotten several
options from doctors and I get different answers all
the time.  My doctor that was taking care of me since
I was DX told me to stay on Gleevec, It was working
and I was getting better slowly. He moved out of
State.  My new Doctor says I should do the Bone Marrow
Transplant, becasue there is no other cure.  I have
seen 2 other doctors since then.  One says wait and
the other one says I have to take a gamble and so I
should do the Transplant.  So know Im getting advice
from other people that are in my shoes. Please help
