My Xantrex XBM shunt is in the negative lead between batteries and load,
which isn't affected by the switch.
Like Colin, I monitor the house bank only. If I want to see what the
starting battery is doing, I switch to Battery #1 and stick a digital meter
into the 12V outlet to read voltage.
