You indicating dumping McAfee for AVG reminded me that just in the last couple weeks I ran across a very nasty virus that was not detected by Norton, McAfee, AVG or anything else I tried. The virus actually was in several component parts and when it was active there was huge problems connecting through to a large section of the internet (any site which helped with virus removal (or virus DB updates), MS updates, etc) were always getting a 'server not responding' in the same way yours is acting. Plus it had disabled the firewall, auto updates, and so on.
I am not saying this to say that you have this type of problem but to say that in my case one of the things the virus did was to change the network 'DNS Server' addresses. In this case it changed it to a server out of Czechoslovakia and that DNS server would respond back that the ip address for these various sites was 127.0.0.1 which is the local loopback (localhost). That is also why I suggested the tracert above. Notice the IP address for google. And, if you ping, or tracert any host (other than localhost) you should never (under normal circumstances) get back an ip address of 127.0.0.1 for an internet host. Yes, you could try disabling the firewall to see if that is the problem cause. You should also double check that you have the correct DNS server address(es) On Jul 2, 4:23 pm, infiniteMPG <[email protected]> wrote: > I'll check the tracert and see what I get back.
