This depends on how old your house or other residence is -- grease down the
drain was normal back in the 50's and 60's, but always use hot water and use
plenty of it. Older sewer systems weren't designed for the modern low water
usage commodes and careful use of water in the sinks and other sites, so
it's easier to clog them up if you don't use enough water. (I got this from
a plumber who was working on my step-mom's house, and he told her to flush
twice if she didn't want him back on a regular basis)

Be careful about draining the meat from the colander right into your drain.
You can clog it up; that is why I use a bowl or another pan and toss the
grease into an empty coffee can or into the trash in a jar or something;
grease is a detriment to plumbing!

I use a collander or strainer.

I put the strainer in the sink and scrape the cooked meat into it from the
skillet or pan. I usually rinse it with hot water while it is draining.
This helps to wash away the grease.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

I'd like to thank you for your help on my previous questions. THe one about
separating eggs and browning ground beef. It is much appreciated. I have
another one, when you brown meat, how do you safely drain the fat or grease?

I've never done this myself, and wondered if you had any suggestions. Thank
you for any help you can provide.

Musically,
Allison
