There is interest. Trog has a lot of flavour with his conduct, whereas 
Okawaru and Makhleb are more like standard war gods. More flavour is 
welcome.

I wouldn't mind it if Xom is regarded as generally beneficial in battle -- 
until he gets a fit and is not, of course. (In other words, the bad 
effects could be a lot rarer, in my opinion.)

Yes, that is why the strict rule is too strong, in my opinion. With Trog,
a plain piety hit for running away could do. Having the berserk timer
decrease when running away would also be good.
