Jim - As Steve says, 22 rimfire is well known for performance varaiations
from rifle to rifle with different ammo. What is a "Unique Standard Rifle"?
You don't say how long its barrel is. I must say, it was a few years ago that
I chrono'd RWS, so maybe batch variation accounts for the different results
you got - maybe their QC has deteriorated, or whatever. But when I acquired
the old Winchester I immediately tested half a dozen ammo types, and RWS subs
HP was the clear winner, shooting quarter-inch groups at 25 yds.
I found this a bit surprising at the time, because my Win52 has (presumably)
a match chamber, cut tighter than sporters, and the RWS fodder is field ammo.
But I couldn't argue with the paper and chrono results.
Subsequently I've shifted to Lapua, after finding it was even better - Lap
Master shoots significantly better from my rifle than any other ammo tested.
I note that several people advocate Eley, and the name is certainly an
honourable one - but Eley has always shot s**t in my rifle, a complete waste
of time. Same for Winchester ammo, ironically enough, and as for CCI
Stinger.... I shot a bunny straight through the boiler room with a Stinger at
35yds (Whop! and puff of dust), and after twitching a bit, it ran a clear 25
yds to the bushes, showing not a sign of worry...
Incidentally, one of the most accurate 22s I've ever encountered is an
ancient Mossberg semi-auto belonging to a friend. He's a good shot, but
wouldn't be able to bag so many bunnies if the rifle wasn't up to it, and the
battered old Mossie knocks 'em down nearly every time, with Winchester subs
HP ammo. There you go.
Anyone tried Remington Yellow Jacket? Is it obtainable in UK?

I've seen it on shelves here, when and where I can't quite place, I think
Edgar Bros are the importers now.

Steve.
