This is a non-starter. It cannot be exclusively between the reseller
and the customer. This is not something that can be done at all.
If you want that kind of exclusive relationship, then you need to be
more than a reseller. Become an accredited registrar yourself.
Just like a web hosting reseller, if your customer doesn't pay you,
you are still on tap for the fees to the provider. The customer loses
access to the account (just like they would lose access to their
domain name). But that doesn't mean that you have the right to the
content on the website (or the control of the domain name in this
case).

News for you, people said this a year ago too.
Tucows passed Register.com in the first quarter 2001 to be the number
2 registrar for new domain registrations.

Which can be rephrased as "informed cynicism."

Do me a favor Stewart. Become ICANN Accredited and establish the
largest wholesale reseller network in the domain business, become the
#2 registrar in numbers of new registrations, and then come back here
and talk to us about what your costs of doing business are.
Then maybe you can make some informed statements along these lines.
Harsh? Yes, I am. The price issue is over a year old now, and its
time to put it to rest. Same with the issue of chargebacks. Anyone
who expects more than the customer losing use of the name in those
instances is expecting far more than what they are entitled to.
These issues have been debated to death. And despite all the doom and
gloom about how these issues would cause resellers to run to the
competition, it hasn't happened. OpenSRS is growing faster than any
other registrar, and has the largest reseller network.
That tells me they are doing it right.
