What good is the CVC number? If a website has users pay via credit
cards, including name/address/number/expiry/CVC/etc and the website is
hacked, and said information is now in the hands of a bad guy, what
"security" is in place anywhere? What security is possible?

The only thing the CVC number does is verifies that the card number was
not stolen from an imprint of the card, right?

If the card was legitimately stolen, it's possible they've decided it
isn't worth persuing $20 (Or whatever). If I made $50/hour, would I
spend an hour or two of my life defending a $20 chargeback?

The nice thing about standards, there is enough for everyone to have their own.
