I get that, really, and never meant to indicate that I'd expect anything to be universally applicable - even or especially my salad bar quote. Especially in this Real World thing people keep telling me about.
I felt the distinction was being stated in fairly absolutist terms, and wanted to ask for things that could possibly be drawn from the methodology, and applied. While I know there are distinct reasons for processes and methods, I couldn't see why lessons couldn't be learned from disparate or even opposing sources - I draw inspiration for design from sculpture, food recipes from music and the world would seem a shallow place to me if we couldn't look at the stars and see gods. Folks on the list have been cool enough to go further with their ideas, even if not changing their positions. It's all I wanted for my satisfaction, as well as for my imaginary constituency.
