I like it because if you've had a rough oncall week (which seems to be one in three for us), you can enjoy the weekend even more. It does mean that your weekend oncall is less enjoyable, or at least can carry a certain dread. The meeting handoff/oncall summary idea has been good in the past, and actually I implemented that (or tried to) when I was an ops manager.
