As amusing it is as a demonstration, this is almost certainly illegal due to wiretap laws. If everybody used SkullSpace-owned machines and were notified - by a banner or something - that we have the right to monitor their traffic and such, then it would be okay. But as it stands, not everybody who uses the space's Internet connection reads discuss@, and I very much doubt that a post to discuss@ would hold up in court. Therefore, illegal.
Additionally, it just 'feels' wrong. Just because you *can* do something, doesn't make it right or ethical to do it, even if it's just as a demonstration. Much like cracking people's passwords simply because you have access to them - it's an invasion of privacy, and also kinda rude. :) Ron On 2013-04-06 01:10, Alex Weber wrote: > Hey everybody, > > Today, I set up a computer with Driftnet running at the space. > It shows, on a nice big display, any JPEG or GIF images that traverse our > black DD-WRT router. > > It's a neat demonstration of what exactly somebody can see when you are not > using SSL/TLS. > > If you want to learn a few different ways to protect yourself, come to the > Cryptoparty on the 27th! > > If you feel seriously violated by this installation, please feel free to > disconnect it the next time you're at the space. > > -Alex > _______________________________________________ > SkullSpace Discuss Mailing List > Help: http://www.skullspace.ca/wiki/index.php/Mailing_List#Discuss > Archive: https://groups.google.com/group/skullspace-discuss-archive/ _______________________________________________ SkullSpace Discuss Mailing List Help: http://www.skullspace.ca/wiki/index.php/Mailing_List#Discuss Archive: https://groups.google.com/group/skullspace-discuss-archive/
