I see here the kind of discussion which occurs when some people believe
that it is easier to meet the goals of an organization by manipulating
its structure rather than by getting people to actually do things.
Such people do not ask the real questions:
1. Does the organization, as it exists today, stand in the way of anyone
who wants to move his stinking arse and actually do something?
2. Do people, who the energy to move their smelly arses, know how to use
the organization to help them get things done?
>From what I see, Hamakor today is organized to answer in the affirmative
to question (1) above. What Hamakor may be lacking today is in
disseminating information to potential volunteers. The fact that people
spend a lot of energy proposing changes in Hamakor's structure is a
symptom of lack of understanding how to use Hamakor to accomplish large
deeds.
One point worthy of special note:
Ely's suggestions have the effect of requiring more volunteers to get
anything done - both administrative and project-wise. We should be
thinking instead of ways to accomplish objectives using less (not more)
volunteers.
Look for donations of secretarial help from other organizations. Can
someone serve as a joint bursar of two nonprofits at the same time? If
yes, borrow 1/2 bursar from another nonprofit. Arrange for the services
of a knowledge specialist from another organization to be available for
free for projectors, who need to search for material for their projects.
Have Hamakor members and friends, who invested heavily in building a
network of connections in Israel, make those connections available to
projectors with worthwhile projects. et cetera.
