They are different designs for different purposes. Hams are not a managed fleet like public safety systems. That being said, creating a 12.5 kHz. band plan in the portion of the REPEATER sub-band currently used for analog simplex would accommodate more than D-STAR. P25/MotoTurbo/ NXDN/D-STAR all fit into those slots nicely. John D.
