Phase 1 project 25 digital is a public safety specification. I know of no amateur radios in production that offer P25. For interoperability many public safety entities install base station equipment for the non-compatible system and cross connect the foreign radio system through a switch to the native system. For example an 800 Mhz EDACS public safety system installs VHF P25 stations and cross connect on demand through a switch. When public safety moves to phase2 digital there will be a glut of phase 1 radios that hams may use in amateur service. I was hoping Alinco would offer a DSTAR add on board to make their radio compatible.
