On or about 5/2/04 11:20 AM Lewis Nelson AKA [EMAIL PROTECTED] eruditely mused the following:
>>Internal Modem is supposed to be 56,000 and all I see I'm getting in my >>Remote Access screen is 28,800. Can this be right? If not what do I >>need to change to make it run faster? > >Phone line quality has much to do with connection speed. At my last two >residences the maximum connection speed with 56K modems was 31K. I would >bet it is phone lines that are limiting your connection speed and if so >there is nothing much you can do. Just because a modem is 56k does not mean you will ever get that speed. The fastest I have ever seen is 53k but sometime it is also the maximum possible speed of the dialup number that limits the connection speed. I have one customer who cannot connect to greater than 32k with Earthlink's local numbers. Try using a different local number, if one exists, and see if the connection speed differs.
