I'm on "digest" mode so forgive me if I'm typing a repeat! Slow "56k" modem connection can be caused by:
1. Bad line. 2. DSL already available on line. 3. Something else connected to the phone line (another modem in something perhaps?) Try disconnecting *everything* from the phone line except the computer modem.
