cannot rebuild

After hours, I am going crazy enough to write for help.

Entourage is running well, but I have deleted a lot of mail and moved things
so I want to rebuild my files. I'm pressing Option as I launch it, but get a
message telling me to quit all MS programs and try again. Thing is... I have
NOTHING running. Honest. I have disabled control strip, quit Stickies and
Spell Catcher... there is nothing more to quit.

This has never happened to me before (since emailer). It is also happening
to a friend who has also never seen this before.

Can anyone please shed some light on this behavior? It's frustrating that
the alert doesn't say more and that there is no more to quit.
