What a great list! I just received my first digest earlier today, and you're
already addressing my big problem (sending email to specific folders). I do
have a follow-up question, though.

(Incidentally, I don't see any way to access the list archives, and I don't
see links to a FAQ either, so I'll just plunge in and ask:)

The deal is, I have a (perhaps inefficient) way of storing my email within
Entourage. For all of my personal correspondence, I file each person's email
(and my responses) into a single folder that is labeled with that person's
name. I have arranged all of these individual folders as subfolders that are
grouped by letter (or by letter groups, really---"A thru C," "D thru G,"
etc.) Then I put all of *those* folders into a "Personal Mailboxes" folder.
This is so that, if I'm not filing correspondence or looking for a
particular person's message, I can just keep the whole thing locked away in
one folder, and I still have room to see my other miscellaneous email
folders.

OK. So that's the system. Such as it is. The problem is in the actual filing
operation, which I haven't set up to be done automatically. I realize that I
could: that is, I could establish rules that would file these messages for
me---except for the fact that I don't like to file people's email into their
individual folders until AFTER I read the messages. So I keep newer
correspondence in the inbox, and what I've always done is go through and
manually file the emails as a group when I get tired of how crowded the
in-box is.

As you can imagine, this system gets very unwieldy, and I've been trying
recently to figure out how to set up a filter that will run *only* when I
WANT it to, to automatically filter all in-box messages (and my responses to
them from the "sent items" file) into the appropriate folders.

Yeesh. From what I can see, there is *no* way to do this automatically,
short of establishing an individual rule for each person's folder, keeping
all of the rules un-enabled, and then manually enabling EACH RULE (one for
each person!) every time I want to perform a "run"! (Of course, I'd need to
un-enable each of those rules again after the run was complete.)

Am I missing something? After many hours of struggling with the problem,
I've come to the conclusion that pre-established rules simply cannot be
automatically enabled (or disabled) all at once for controlled
instances---and furthermore, I can't see how to efficiently perform the
enabling/disabling command except by clicking on EACH rule individually.
That would be way too tedious---it would be just as easy to stick with my
completely manual method.

Sigh. Any suggestions here? I've never written an applescript or anything,
but man, I'll even try to learn how to do that if that's what it takes. I
have to say, I thought that a "manual filter" sort of operation would be a
relatively common feature request, and I am really surprised that it doesn't
seem to be a feature of Entourage.

Sorry for the long post here---I'll try to be less verbose in future. But I
wanted to give you all of the details. Any help appreciated---

Beth
